Something Pinteresting - Hello Spring...

Happy Good Friday!

It's been a little while, but I thought it would be nice, with the clocks changing on Sunday, to bring back my 'Something Pinteresting for The Weekend' series.  It's a series I've run in the past on a Friday, where I share some favourite pinterest discoveries based on a theme.  This week's theme is 'Hello Spring' and the images and more similar can be found on my pinterest board called 'It's a Spring Thing' here:

So, from the top, we have the sweetest little bunnies by Mayumi Maeda....

The mixed media painting above is called 'Spring Garden' and is by Josephine Grundy - I love the use of colour and the little pops of white blossom against the grey blue sky, it's very evocative of spring...

as is this utterly gorgeous painting of spring flowers by Emily Sutton...

The delicate watercolour flowers above are by Yao Cheng and is called 'Rose Bouquet'...

Above is a jolly spring themed fabric by Lewis & Irene...

I hope these pinterest finds are filling you hearts with inspiration and a joy for spring, as much as they do for me.  All that's left to say is 'Hello Spring' - and the delightful illustration above by Kate Mason does that so well.

Have a very lovely weekend & Happy Easter!

Celebrating International Women's Day...

Top image, top left: Zandra Rhodes, top right: Celia Birtwell, bottom left: Barbara Hulanicki (founder of Biba), bottom right: Frida Kahlo - some of the designers and artists that have inspired me to study and work in the arts

Happy International Women's Day!

I want to celebrate this in some way because I am a mother to two young girls who, like most young girls do, are looking for idols to aspire to be like.

Having grown up in the 70s and 80s, the younger me really believed that by the time any daughter I may be blessed with had grown up, the world would be completely filled with possibilities and positive female role models, more so than ever before.  I have to say, I feel a little disappointed for them right now.  So a day like this helps to address that a little and should be celebrated.

Another reason I wanted to celebrate it is that without seeing the work of and reading about some amazing female artists and designers - I would never have considered it possible or worthwhile to pursue an education or career in the arts.

For those reasons, I set up a new pinterest board this morning to help fill the feed with some of the women that I've learned about and find very inspiring.  I hope you find them inspiring too.  I could have pinned for hours, but need to get some things done, so set myself a 30 min time limit and pinned from typing in the names of those that inspire me from the top of my head in that time. It was interesting to see who made the cut in that time - a very eclectic mix.  Here is a link to that pinterest board so you can see who's on there:

It would be wonderful to see the pinterest feed taken over by images of inspiring women today.   This is an open invite to anyone who fancies joining in, please set aside a few minutes to pin a few of your inspiring women today too...

Top image, top left: Jane Goodall top right: Emmeline Pankhurst bottom left: Rosa Parks, bottom right: Mother Theresa - just a few of the ones the I think define the word inspiration.

In amongst my pins this morning were a few ladies from the world of music.  I grew up watching these women on TV, breaking the mould and taking on the music industry on their own terms... artists in every sense of the word.  I feel so lucky to have had such creative and uncompromising female role models promoted to me through through the media as a child and teen, they were exciting and made me believe that anything was possible for us girls.  I wish there were more women like these around for my girls to look up to. Thankfully there are a few, the likes of Adele for instance.  Surely, I am not the only mum that believes our daughters deserve more.

Left image: Back row left to right: Chrissy Hynde, Debbie Harry, Viv Albertine (The Slits), Siouxie Sioux, Front row left to right, Poly Styrene (X Ray Specs), Pauline Black (The Selector). Right image: Kate Bush

To all the beautiful, inspiring, amazing, ordinary and extraordinary women of the world, may every day be international women's day!

Best wishes

Something Pinteresting - Warm & Woolly Style...

Happy Friday!

Brrr, it's been cold out lately.  I think it's time to think warm and snugly thoughts with some 'pins'piration from my pinterest board 'Warm & Woolly Style'.

Starting with the beautiful autumnal colours above in the Ravelry Pattern 'Hedgerow' by Anne Kingstone...

In my mind, Donna Wilson is the queen of warm and woolly style.
Her bright and quirky designs make me want to cosy up to them with the biggest of smiles.

Here's a link to her website, where you can find a dizzying choice of wonders such as the cushions above and the soft animals below: http://www.donnawilson.com/

Here are some more beautiful patterns from Ravelry that caught my eye...

First up 'Paper Dolls' By Kate Davies...

The next Ravelry pattern is 'Maple' by Marie Wallin.  I just love the use of colour and have a soft spot for a bit of fair isle intricacy...

I also want to share some work from a couple of very lovely British designer makers who are rocking warm and woolly style in every wonderful product.

Lauren Aston creates amazing oversized knits for the home, she's a fabulous Westcountry designer maker and her website can be found here:

I am loving Natalie Franca's, AKA More Tea Vicar, latest collection of knit wear for this season over on Folksy, such as these cheery cowl infinity scarves which can be found on Folksy here:

I hope you all have a warm and cosy weekend!

Best wishes

Something Pinteresting - Stationery Love

Happy Friday!

I make no secret of it, I've always loved pretty stationery as I grew up in an age when writing to pen friends was a pleasure beyond measure! No letter was complete without matching paper, envelope and little stickers!...even the pen you wrote with had to match - such happy, happy times!

Thankfully, we can all still indulge in this as the choice of stunning stationery on the market today is amazing...and it is very satisfying to see, especially in this digital age, that the art of paper correspondence is very much alive and thriving!

Here are a few of my favourite pics pulled from my pinterest board called 'Stationery Love'...

From the top and the pic above - we have a botanical collection from Roger La Borde.

This perfectly pretty range of paper bags, stickers and washi is by Elizabeth Olwen for Madison Park

A truly gorgeous embroidered notebook from Accessorize

Sunshiny, brightly coloured letterpress cards from Hello Lucky

Botani - Call or Write Stationery Set from Mod Cloth

Last but not least, pretty coloured washi tapes from Paper & Cloth

I hope that has all made you smile!
Have a lovely weekend

Something Pinteresting - Halloween...

 Hello!

This Friday it's all about the pumpkins as we get set for a spooky weekend of trick or treats.

To celebrate this bewitching time of year I have selected a few of my pins from my Autumn Almanac pinterest board, to help get us all in the mood for Halloween.

At the top is a poster by Tom Whalen, which is part of his collection of re-invented posters - in this case it's Charlie Brown...

Above: Happy Halloween from Lab Partners in a cute, quirky retro style...
I am a mum to two little girls - the magic of Mandy Sutcliffe's Belle and Boo is just our thing.  Isn't this Halloween illustration delightful?!...

The repeat above featuring 'Witches Brew' is by Maude Asbury can be found via Hawthorne Threads,

Have a wonderful weekend!

Something Pinteresting - Season of Mists

Hello!

Time for some more pinteresting things.  I have done a sweep of my pinterest board Autumn Almanac and have gathered a few of my autumnal favourites to share with you here.

Above is a gorgeous and evocative illustration by Penelope Dullaghan - isn't it wonderful?! I just want to step in to the image and sit beside her to read my book under that tree too.

Beautiful toffee apple colours of autumn by Susan Driscoll on this tote bag

Norwegian Woods - Foxtrot Fabric by Michael Miller Fabrics
Great colours, great autumn fabric collection - have a look for yourself here:

(Marc does cute so well - he is best known for his animated series Mouk).

Something Pinteresting - Just My Type

Hello!

Welcome to the return of my series 'Something Pinteresting For The Weekend'.
It's a little regular Friday inspiration post of curiosities and wonders that I've found over on pinterest based around a theme.

This week my theme and pinterest board is 'Just My Type'
This is where I pin treasures of typography. A mix of wonderful lettering and inspirational quotes.  These are just a few of my favourites....

Starting with the image at the top.  'Let Us Remember, One Book, One Pen and One Teacher can change the world'  The quote is from Malala Yousafzai, but the glorious lettering is all Mary Kate McDevitt....

'Learn the rules like a pro - break them like an artist' - Oh, how I love this so much!!
Quote from Pablo Picasso, Lettering by Steph Baxter

Another great quote to live by 'There are 7 days in a week and Someday isn't one of them'.  This has been expertly created by Jennet Liaw

Got to love a bit of Ecojot colourful quirkiness - 'Happiness is a Form of Courage'

'If you are making mistakes you're out there doing something' - Quote by Neil Gaiman, from a bit of google research,  it looks like the design appears to be by ModCloth's in house designer Ryan!

And finally, not a quote, simply an exquisitely drawn letter S by Lucille Michielli,  'S' for 'Super Scrumptious' I think!

For more lovely lettering here's a link to my pinterest board 'Just My Type':

Have a wonderful weekend!
